Eligibility, Awards and Notifications

Full and Partial Scholarships are available for this year’s Snorkel & Study winter break, Jan 2-9, 2011. Please read the following information about eligibility and awards carefully.

Scholarship Eligibility
You must be currently enrolled in a college or university to be eligible. Undergrads and graduate students may apply.
You must submit the online application, $50 application fee, and letter of recommendation in order to be considered for a scholarship. Submissions received on or before November 22 will be considered for Full and Partial Scholarships. Submissions received after November 22 will be considered for Partial Scholarships.

Awards
Scholarship awards are competitive and are based on the careful consideration of your online application (which includes essay questions) and recommendation letter. There are a fixed number of Full and Partial Scholarships so the earlier in the process you complete your materials the better.  Depending on whether you receive a full or partial scholarship, your award covers the full or partial costs of room, board, classes, tutorials, and your snorkeling trip in the Keys. Scholarship awards do not include airfare to and from Florida.

Notifications
Notifications of Full and Partial Scholarship awards will be made by email, starting November 11, 2011. You must send your confirmation within 7 days to secure your award.

Be sure to read sections about the Application Process, Payment and Refunds, and Scholarship Agreement before you complete your application.

Application Process

1. Apply online. Set aside ample time to fill out the Application Form. This is a competitive process and the essay questions require your thoughtful responses. Make sure you have a referral name and the telephone number from your local campus Chabad or other Jewish community educator; it’s a required field for your application. Have your credit card ready to pay your $50 Application Fee. You’ll be directed there once you submit your form.

2. Pay your non-refundable $50 Application Fee. Make sure to indicate it’s for Snorkel & Study.

3. Send us your letter of recommendation. Your Chabad House director or other Jewish community educator should email their letter to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or mail to Snorkel & Study, 383 Kingston Avenue, Suite 248, Brooklyn, NY 11213-4333.

4. Confirm your scholarship. We will start sending out email notifications of scholarships on Nov 11, 2011. To secure the award, you must confirm your scholarship within 7 days, either by email or phone. Once you confirm, go ahead and book your ticket.

5. Email a recent photo of yourself. (It's our way of getting to know you just a little better before you arrive.)

6. Email your travel itinerary. If you’re flying into Miami International Airport you can arrange transportation to Mariners Resort on your own or you can join the group transportation down to the Keys. More information about group transportation will be in your acceptance email.

Impressions

"The level of friendship and connection that was achieved in a matter of a few days was completely unexpected. I’ve made the most incredible friendships, not just for a week, but, thank G-d, for a lifetime, and I’ve never met more amazing people than I have here. I only hope that everyone I meet from now on has the qualities that I’ve found in the people at Bais Chana."
